(not so) Wordless Wednesday – University of Ottawa #travel

Sharing is caring!

I was looking through my phone for some great pictures to share on #WordlessWednesday. I came across some lovely pictures that we took this spring on a University site visit.
Reflecting on our trip to University of Ottawa that sealed the deal for my daughter.

University of Ottawa is located in the downtown core of our nations capital.  It is a fully bilingual university with courses offered in both official languages.  My daughter is doing a bilingual degree which lets her use the French that she studied in her French as a First language school. She is comfortable taking classes in French but just to make sure everyone understands the lectures, there is an additional ‘tutorial/review’ class that is offered.
What a great way to encourage bilingual learning while nurturing academic success.

Opened in 2013, the spectacular  Eco- friendly Social Sciences building has the largest “living wall” you could ever imagine. As you can see in the picture below there is a person standing at the base. The beautiful plants and the waterfall at the bottom makes the whole atrium peaceful and welcoming.

Why did she ultimately choose University of Ottawa/Université d’Ottawa?
1. The specialized program
2. The Bilingual component
3. The Co-op available in second year IN her program
4.  The campus is all in one location
5.  Being in a ‘big’ cosmopolitan city
I’m very glad she is there even though I miss her so much. There are phone calls, texts, Skype and emails. But I get to see her in less than a month and I can hardly wait.

  1. I have never visited Ottawa, but you might never say never. Funny thing, I have studied social sciences, it is something that I have been wanting to do because I believed in a dream, but when I woke up to the real world after finishing my studies (economical crisis, mainly), I had to try for another career. Now I have an MBA too.

  2. How many hours are spent for the French classes? I used to attend a multilingual school. We were taught English for 4 hours, Filipino (Tagalog) for an hour, Chinese for 4 hours. In some days, there were also crash courses to learn Japanese and French.

  3. Ottawa is a great city. I am so happy for her. How awesome that it is bilingual also. The coop will be invaluable for her as a tool to start gaining experience and crack the job market.
