I was looking through my phone for some great pictures to share on #WordlessWednesday. I came across some lovely pictures that we took this spring on a University site visit.
Reflecting on our trip to University of Ottawa that sealed the deal for my daughter.
University of Ottawa is located in the downtown core of our nations capital. It is a fully bilingual university with courses offered in both official languages. My daughter is doing a bilingual degree which lets her use the French that she studied in her French as a First language school. She is comfortable taking classes in French but just to make sure everyone understands the lectures, there is an additional ‘tutorial/review’ class that is offered.
What a great way to encourage bilingual learning while nurturing academic success.
Opened in 2013, the spectacular Eco- friendly Social Sciences building has the largest “living wall” you could ever imagine. As you can see in the picture below there is a person standing at the base. The beautiful plants and the waterfall at the bottom makes the whole atrium peaceful and welcoming.
Why did she ultimately choose University of Ottawa/Université d’Ottawa?
1. The specialized program
2. The Bilingual component
3. The Co-op available in second year IN her program
4. The campus is all in one location
5. Being in a ‘big’ cosmopolitan city
I’m very glad she is there even though I miss her so much. There are phone calls, texts, Skype and emails. But I get to see her in less than a month and I can hardly wait.

It is nice to promote diversity and having both languages at the school is wonderful.
wow! Congrats to her! I’m also a college student as well. 🙂
Pretty nice place for a University.. Conducive for learning things.. Also, their programs are nice and pretty interesting..
being a billingual and eco friendly place is such a nice thing to know and it will get people to be more interestd
I think that my cousin might have gone to this school! It looks like an interesting program!
That living wall is pretty nice. They have something similar in Dublin at the Guiness Factory, but I think that one is way bigger.
I have never visited Ottawa, but you might never say never. Funny thing, I have studied social sciences, it is something that I have been wanting to do because I believed in a dream, but when I woke up to the real world after finishing my studies (economical crisis, mainly), I had to try for another career. Now I have an MBA too.
I live in Ottawa and if your daughter ever needs anything, please let me know, I am not far from Ottawa U,
That living wall is beyond cool. I bet you miss your daughter. I cannot even imagine when my 2 start attending college. Glad that you’ll be seeing her soon.
This sounds like a great school. The living wall is pretty neat. My son is trying to decide which college he wants to attend.
I’ve never been to Ottawa. Looks like an awesome school!
Sounds like a really wonderful school! & the “living wall” is pretty spectacular itself.
That is such a cool way to learn! I wish I could study at a bilingual school (and be bilingual haha)!
Wow…a bilingual degree? Dang, that’s cool
How many hours are spent for the French classes? I used to attend a multilingual school. We were taught English for 4 hours, Filipino (Tagalog) for an hour, Chinese for 4 hours. In some days, there were also crash courses to learn Japanese and French.
I speak two languages, so I absolutely LOVE that this school is bilingual. It really adds another layer to everything.
I love the living wall! That’s very cool. Best of luck to your daughter and her schooling!
This is a amazing. I love that they have both languages at the school. I really need to work on learning another language.
The “living wall” is so interesting! 🙂
It sounds like a great school as it’s also bilingual. The university looks great as well. Thank you for sharing 🙂
That sounds like a great school! Thanks for the info!
I’ve never visited there but it sounds like you had a great experience.
The university looks like a great and conducive place to learn. It also is located in a big city.
I love how the university is right in the middle of the city. An amazing university and great campus.
Congratulations on your daughter making it to university. It’s start of new journey.
Ottawa is a great city. I am so happy for her. How awesome that it is bilingual also. The coop will be invaluable for her as a tool to start gaining experience and crack the job market.
I am sure she will enjoy UOttawa. It is a great school and offers so much.
