As parents we all face challenges.
We are usually working to make ends meet.
Trying our hardest to provide our children with the best life can offer.
We want to spend quality time with our kids. In the spirit of ‘building healthy communities’ (the YMCA motto), this point was very clear in the finds of the 2014 YMCA Research Report commissioned by the YMCA of Greater Toronto and the YMCA of Hamilton, Burlington and Brantford. The key finds are clear: (1) Parents need more time more quality time with their kids; (2) Parents are looking for more information about services for pre-school aged children and (3) Parents need to find out what is best for their kids.
The YMCA considers itself a ‘family center’ it is a hub to bring together families not just to keep them physically healthy but also to be a l prime location for resources. You can go into any one of your local YMCAs and find help. Whether its understanding important milestones in your infant and toddler’s life, YMCA Early Years Centres, or pointing the way toward other community programs and services all kinds of resources are readily available at your local YMCA.
If you haven’t visited your local YMCA recently, they are opening the doors for you and your family to help you spend some quality time with your kids this weekend by hosting #YHealthyKids Day on Sunday, June 1st. The YMCA HealthyKids Day is a cross-country campaign to bring greater awareness to the activities and services provided by the YMCA. There are information booths and program details available to you. Are you looking for a summer day or overnight camp for your kids? All the YMCAs have information for you to review. Take a tour of a facility or speak to the staff about what program best suits your family.
You can also go to experience different programs that are run by the YMCA. Each location has different activities for you to try. Maybe you want to play badminton or basketball at the Markham YMCA. Do you want to have a game of family dodge ball or family Tai Chi at the Scarborough YMCA? Or maybe you want to run in the ‘Amazing Race’ event at the Brantford YMCA.
