One of the great things about blogging is you get to try interesting products that your kids might think are pretty neat. I wanted to bring you on our shop for Cypher Entertainment Augmented Reality “Kids Club” Learning Cards.
We went to Walmart and looked around for all sorts of items that we wanted for Christmas gifts for the kids. Since I thought that the Cypher games was more for my son we tended to look for toys for my son. See what we found on our shopping trip to Walmart in north London… Google+ Album. ![]()
I finally made my way to the Entertainment section. I had some problems finding the learning cards but I wanted to let you go that you need to go where the they sell the video games. The Cypher Kids Club interactive cards are not in the large locked cases like the other video games but on a shelf near them. Luckily they were on a the top shelf.
There are three different decks to chose from: Letters (26 cards), numbers (20 cards) and wild animals (18 cards). The cards are geared for children 3+. You will need one of the following devices to work with Cypher Augmented Reality Cards:
🏡 Where to Stay: Top Accommodations
🥾 Explore: Tours & Experiences
🚙 Hit the Road: Car Rental Deals
🛫 Get Away: Find Flight Deals
🎒 Shop: Travel EssentialsCompatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
I have to admit, it was challenging for me to download the app but I asked my 16 year-old daughter to help me out and it was a snap for her. After waiting for the download we had to ensure that the iPad was directly over the cards for it to function properly. Once we got a hang of it, it was fun to see the different animals in 3D and learn some of the interesting facts.
All the cards are bright and pictures are clearly labeled and easy to identified. You have an array of animals that you can look at: zebras, lions, wolves, parrots, polar bears, penguins and red-eyed tree frogs + many more. One of the cool things is when you download the image of the animal then move the iPad over a different surface, you can see a monkey on your wall or a dolphin in your bathtub!
Augmented reality is the newest level of interactive video games and I think that this is just the beginning of some really interesting games that will use 3-D effects. This is a part of my kids reality (3D was a bit of an unknown when I was growing up) but today we have lots of 3-D movies. The best thing about Cypher Kids Club is you don’t have to use 3D glasses to see the images come alive.
You can purchase Cypher Kids Club Cards at select Walmart Stores in Canada and in Target in the US. Remember to check in the “Entertainment” section of Walmart Canada. It retails for $29.88 CDN
