If you visit in late November, you can catch the Titirijai International Puppet Festival, an event that draws performers and visitors from around the world and fills the theatre with energy and innovation.
Moving up to the museum galleries on the second floor, you’ll discover an inventive layout that encourages curiosity at every turn in The Puppet House. This interactive exhibit shows your puppets from all over the world. You are introduced to the museums mascot – an adorable young girl that looks strikingly similar to Pippi Longstocking (IYKYK).
Designed by architect Dani Freixes, the galleries use mirrors, lighting, and unexpected perspectives to showcase more than 2,500 puppets from over 40 countries. They are on different levels and when the show is over, you have the opportunity to see the individual puppets.
Both permanent and temporary exhibitions are on display, and interactive elements invite you to experiment with puppet mechanisms or try your hand at storytelling. It’s a space where you’re encouraged to get involved, not just observe.
On the upper floor, the documentation and research center offers a deep dive into the world of puppetry.
