After the gluttony of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, I welcome the grace of Giving Tuesday. I have been a supporter of this particular initiative that began in New York City four years ago. With 5757 Partners and Growing you have a plethora of choices that you can donate to. Begin the giving season with Giving Tuesday! You can search for non-profits and charities in your own community, nationally or internationally. There is never a shortage of good causes that you can give to.

In the last few years I have posted about giving to Me to We and other charities on Giving Tuesday. I support a few causes throughout the year and I have received notification from some of them for Giving Tuesday campaigns so I thought I would pass it on. The good thing about these offers is that many pair off with other organizations that will match a donation or give you an added incentive to donate (double your donation).
If you have family of friends that have just about everything, you can certainly consider giving them a gift that gives back. Organizations like World Vision will send a lovely card to you that you can then ‘put under the tree’ or you can mail to your family.

WORLD VISION and Burnbrae Farms
This gift provides children and their families in developing countries with an ongoing source of income, food and health for growing kids. As part of this gift, Burnbrae Farms has partnered with World Vision Canada to provide training on how to care for animals and create a sustainable income. If you purchase Two Hens and a Rooster for $50, Burnbrae Farms will match this gift up to $10,000. So this means you will double your donation to World Vision. You know I am a BIG, BIG, BIG fan of World Vision and the fact that they help families throughout the world.
Kiva
How does Kiva work: you lend money to a micro-business, they pay it back and you lend it again. By lending as little as $25 on Kiva, anyone can help a borrower start or grow a business, go to school, access clean energy or realize their potential. For some, it’s a matter of survival, for others it’s the fuel for a life-long ambition. 100% of every dollar you lend on Kiva goes to funding loans. Kiva covers costs primarily through optional donations, as well as through support from grants and sponsors.
If you make a donation of $50 or more today, Kiva will give you a $25 bonus to make a loan! But hurry because bonus funds are limited – and Giving Tuesday is almost over!
If you make your donation by 11:59pm PST today (and while bonus funds last), tomorrow the bonus will be added to your account – look for an email from Kiva when it’s there. You’ll have 7 days to use your bonus to make a loan. Why does Kiva need donations? 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans, so Kiva relies on donations to keep operating and growing. Your donations allow Kiva to reach some of the poorest and most remote communities.
I got hooked on Kiva because as a small business owner, you know how hard it is to keep your business going sometimes but can you imagine what it is like in a developing world? A little be of help from someone else make them feel like someone is investing in their future, not just handing out charity. Being a proud business owner, you always want to move forward and being able to pay back that small loan over months or even a year, gives any owner a sense of accomplishment. My loan was paid back and I went on to re-invest it in another micro-enterprise.
Me to WE

Me to We has been an inspiration force in my children’s lives. Craig and Marc Kielburger have teamed up with politicians, celebrities and inspirational speakers to ask youth to donate hours of service and raise money for different projects for children around the world. The premise is to work locally and think globally – go from “me” to “we” and see what impact you can have. Kids can be empowered to help other kids. Charity donations will be matched X5 from Monday, November 28 at 9:00 p.m. to Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 11:59 p.m., made possible thanks to a special matching gift. Donations eligible for matching can be found through the printed WE Holiday Catalogue, or online at WE.org/donate.

You can give a cash donation or you can buy a few fashionable items. One of our favourites are the Rafiki bracelets because they have some lovely new colours.
Royal Ontario Museum
Making a $40 donation to our Make a Splash campaign — back by popular demand for the holidays — in support of the ROM’s Blue Whale Project! Your donation will enable critical research and help us share a remarkable story with audiences around the world. In recognition of your generous support, your name will be printed on a beautiful blue whale inspired mural that will be prominently featured at the ROM for the duration of the Out of the Depths: The Blue Whale Story exhibition, which opens on March 11, 2017.

The Salvation Army and Kellogg’s
To ensure no child goes without this holiday season, Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® has once again partnered with The Salvation Army for the Rice Krispies® Treats for Toys program. This beloved annual tradition, now in its fourth year, makes giving back easy by transforming delicious Rice Krispies® treats into real toys for less fortunate kids during this festive season.
For every toy-shaped Rice Krispies® treat uploaded to TreatsForToys.ca or shared on social media using #TreatsForToys before December 21, 2016, Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® cereal will donate $20 to The Salvation Army to buy a real toy for a child (up to a maximum of $30,000). To help spread the word, create your own treat or CLICK HERE to use a pre-existing image.
