Capilano Golf and Country Club, West Vancouver, BC ~ Majestic & Memorable #travel #WordlessWednesday

Sharing is caring!

My husband was recently in his home town of West Vancouver,  British Columbia to visit his family. Vancouver is one of – if not the most -beautiful cities in Canada. West Vancouver is located on the west coast of Canada, with the Coastal Mountains to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the west and the City of Vancouver to the south. Touring West Vancouver is an endless number of breathtaking views whether they are from Grouse Mountain, the summit of Cypress Mountain, the walk on Marine Drive or the cliffs looking out over Horseshoe Bay.

For sentimental reasons , I asked my husband to take a few pictures of Capilano Golf and Country Club. Incorporated in 1936 and opened in 1939 Capilano sits on the east side of West Vancouver just  north of the Trans-Canada highway.  My in-laws have been members of Capilano since the 1960s or 70s.

Both my father- and mother-in law have played many a golf game at Capilano. My husband learned how to play golf there but for me it is the location of our Vancouver Wedding reception.

We were married in London, Ontario and had a small reception after the ceremony.   The next day we wisked off to Paris for a 10 day honeymoon.  We came back through Toronto – picking up our luggage and wedding gifts in tow- and headed to Vancouver for another West Coast black-tie reception.

It was a memorable evening of cocktails and dancing.  All so very grown up or so it seemed at the time.

So today to commemorate the 25 anniversary of our first date in Vancouver,  I wanted to share the beautiful pictures of Capilano Golf Club.

As you look out from the terrace of the club house you will see the pro shop to the right and then take in the view from the 1st tee. It is breathtaking.

One of the most memorable pictures that you can take at Capilano is a wedding picture under the catalpa tree. It looks a bit scrawny in the winter months but in the spring, summer and fall it is stunning.

On an early morning you can see the wildlife that still live in the area: deer, coyotes and the very rare black bear. Not something you would find in many urban golf courses but par of the course in these beautiful mountains.

This is a picture of the 13th and 14th hole. One of my favourite views is from the 6th hole as you look down the hill towards the Vancouver skyline.

Though the club house may look like a Tudor mansion it is in fact majestic, classic and in fact, just lovely inside.

I have fond memories of Capilano Golf and Country Club and I know many family memory were made right there in West Van.
