Travel experts at Paris Tickets & Tours analysed the total number of proposal-related hashtags for each European capital, including #capitalproposal and #capitalengagement. The final ranking was then determined by the capitals with the highest hashtag volumes.
Lisbon
It is a very popular place to visit but not always someone’s first choice. Don’t bypass Portugal as a proposal destination because many couples had it first on their list. Lisbon with a total of 1,049,944 proposal-related hashtags it ranked #1. The Portas do Sol viewpoint is infamous for proposals, and the Belém Tower and Gardens is another popular location in the capital to pop the question.
London

It is often associated with the Tower Bridge (so many call it the London Bridge), but you’d be surprised that many choose The London Eye – high in the sky on a Ferris wheel. In second place is London, with a total of 1,026,528 proposal-related hashtags. Another popular spot is the Kyoto Garden, also known as a romantic spot for couples.
Paris
Where many have a sweet honeymoon. It usually starts in the French capital of Paris. Next on the list is Paris, with a total of 1,011,970 proposal-related hashtags. The Eiffel Tower is a go-to proposal destination, but other couples may opt to pop the question whilst on a romantic cruise along the river Seine.
Berlin
Dynamic and fast-paced, it is not your typical romantic destination. Don’t forget about Berlin, fourth on the list, with 549,300 proposal-related hashtags. One of the most romantic spots in Berlin is Charlottenburg Palace, which is an excellent location for proposals.
Andorra la Vella
In a country that is small in size but big on impact, your partner would never imagine a proposal in one of the loveliest European capitals. Andorra la Vella ranks fifth on the list, with 358,409 proposal-related hashtags. The Sola Irrigation Canal Trial is a great activity in the capital for couples who love the outdoors.
Vienna
Vienna is the home of Viennese coffee, the Viennese waltz, and beautiful historic buildings. The capital city is in sixth place, with 318,054 proposal-related hashtags. The Schönbrunn Gardens are infamous for romantic proposals in Vienna.
Madrid
A romantic date, a stroll in the park and a beautiful picnic could be the perfect setting for your in Spain. Madrid places seventh on the list of European captials, with 248,426 proposal-related hashtags. El Retiro Park is infamous for its beauty and offers various romantic spots perfect for a traditional proposal.
Amsterdam
This eclectic and vibrant capital provides history and entertainment for a romantic getaway. Why not think about Amsterdam, with 189,113 proposal-related hashtags. The Bloemgracht Bridge is an iconic and romantic location to pop the question in Amsterdam.
Oslo
The European capital of Norway, with a mixture of classic and modern architecture, is another great place to get engaged. Romantic spots in the capital include Frogner Park and the Oslo Opera House. Oslo is in ninth place, with 146,535 proposal-related hashtags.
Warsaw
Coming in at #10, Warsaw had 105,516 proposal-related hashtags. The St. Anna Church viewing platform and the Warsaw University Library roof garden are breathtaking destinations for proposals.
Helsinki
Why not consider the Finnish capital, Helsinki, in the winter? Take a walking tour through the pristine, snow-filled forest with Taiga Times, led by a young couple from Canada and Finland. Truly romantic and a great idea for the adventure couple!
Rome
Considered the ‘City of Love, ‘ Rome is an ideal place to propose. There are so many locations it will be hard to pick but maybe toss a coin in the Fountain of Trevi for good luck after the ring is on that finger!
Budapest
Budapest. Did you know that the capital of Hungary is actually two cities in one? With a spectacular old building, you may want to consider going further afield. According to a Reddit suggestion, there aren’t many people at the top of Gellért Hill in the morning, and you would have a great view of Budapest and the Danube. It’s a scenic hike from the city if you and your partner are up for the climb.
Prague
Beautiful, historic, and very romantic, Prague is a great place to propose. If you are an early riser, your partner will not be expecting a proposal in the morning. If you want to do it early enough in the morning, Charles Bridge won’t be crowded, or consider the Petrin side of the Seminary Garden; they have some spectacular views of the city.
Edinburgh
