This summer, Parks Canada is rolling out an incredible opportunity for travelers and families: the Canada Strong Pass initiative. If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring Canada’s breathtaking national parks, historic sites, or marine conservation areas, now is the perfect time to pack your bags and hit the road. Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of your summer adventures in Quebec Maritime and beyond.
What is the Canada Strong Pass?

From June 20 to September 2, 2025, the Canada Strong Pass grants free admission to all national parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation areas operated by Parks Canada. That’s not all—campers can also enjoy a 25% discount on camping fees during this period, and boating enthusiasts will appreciate free lockage at the seven historic canals managed by Parks Canada (mooring fees still apply).

But the perks extend beyond the parks! The initiative also includes:
- Savings at provincial and territorial museums and galleries—with free admission for children (17 and under) and 50% off for young adults (18–24) at participating locations.
- Discounts with VIA Rail—children aged 17 and under travel for free with an adult in Economy class, and young adults (18–24) save 25% on Escape and Economy fares across all VIA Rail routes.
- Special offers at national museums—including the National Gallery of Canada, the Plains of Abraham Museum and more.
This Canada-wide effort encourages Canadians to discover their own backyard and welcomes visitors from abroad to experience the ‘great white north’—which, let’s be honest, is mostly green and vibrant in the spring and summer!
How Does It Work?
There’s no physical or virtual pass to present. Simply show up at participating sites or book your travel, and the discounts are automatically applied. Some activities may require reservations, so be sure to check the websites of each site or museum for details and to confirm what’s included.
You can take advantage of these offers as many times as you like during the summer period. The discounts generally cover admission, but some sites may not include guided tours or special services—always check directly for the latest info.
If you’re a Parks Canada Discovery Pass holder, and your pass is valid in June, July, or August 2025, it will be automatically extended by three months—no action required.
Explore the Parks Canada Sites of Quebec Maritime

Having just returned from a memorable trip through Côte-Nord (following previous adventures in Bas St. Laurent and the Gaspésie region), I can personally recommend several must-see Parks Canada destinations in Quebec Maritime:
Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve (Côte-Nord)

If you’re looking for a place to truly unplug and breathe in that fresh, salty air, Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve on Quebec’s Côte-Nord is a hidden gem you don’t want to miss. Picture dramatic limestone pillars rising from the sea, quiet islands waiting to be explored, and seabirds swooping overhead. Whether you hop on a boat tour, wander along gentle trails, or settle in for a cozy night of oTENTik or Oasis glamping options (unique accommodations in Quebec), Mingan is the kind of spot that lets you slow down, soak up the scenery, and reconnect with nature.
Forillon National Park (Gaspésie)

Perched at the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula, Forillon National Park is a showcase of natural drama and rich heritage. Towering cliffs meet sweeping ocean vistas, and it’s not uncommon to spot whales gliding just offshore. The Les Graves trail offers breathtaking coastal views, while the park’s historic fishing villages tell stories of the region’s maritime past. Consider staying in a beautifully designed tear-drop Oasis pod for a unique glamping experience. Forillon is a place where scenic hikes, wildlife encounters, and cultural discoveries come together for a memorable visit.
Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park (Côte-Nord)

If you’re ready for jaw-dropping scenery, Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park is a must. Kayak along the dramatic fjord, hike through lush forests, or even spend the night in a treehouse.
Visit Pointe-Noire Interpretation and Observation, ideal for wildlife lovers and photographers. Its the perfect vantage point to observe belugas and minke whales in their natural habitat. Whether you’re chasing adventure or just want to sit back and take it all in, this marine park is considered the gateway to the Saguenay Fjord.
Site historique maritime de la Pointe-au-Père (Rimouski)

Looking for a family-friendly stop that’s as fun as it is fascinating? Head to Site historique maritime de la Pointe-au-Père in Rimouski. Here you can climb a historic lighthouse, dive into maritime history at the museum, and even tour a real submarine. With plenty of hands-on exhibits, outdoor play areas, and all the amenities you need, it’s a spot that sparks curiosity in kids and adults alike. It’s one of those places where learning and adventure go hand in hand.
Tips for Making the Most of Your Canada Strong Pass

- Plan ahead: While admission is free, popular campsites and activities can book up quickly. Reserve early to secure your spot.
- Check for extras: Some activities (like guided hikes or backcountry permits) may require separate bookings or fees. Always confirm with Parks Canada or the site directly.
- Stay informed: Visit the Parks Canada website for up-to-date info on park hours, trail conditions, and any special events or restrictions.
- Mix and match: Pair your park visit with nearby museums or historic sites also covered by the pass for a richer experience.
- Unlimited visits: Use your pass benefits as often as you like during the summer—there’s no limit!

With a little planning, the Canada Strong Pass makes it easier than ever to explore, learn, and create unforgettable summer memories. Pack pack your bags, bring your walking shoes and hiking boots plus, bring your sense of adventure, and get ready for a summer you’ll never forget. See you on the trails!
Disclosure: I was invited to Quebec Maritime (Côte-Nord) as part of a FAM trip post TBEX. All information was confirmed via Parks Canada, Government of Canada, and VIA Rail official announcements, June 2025.
