MICHELIN Guide—Key Hotels in Quebec City

The MICHELIN Guide has long been recognized as the global benchmark for culinary and hospitality excellence, with a rich history dating back over a century in Europe where it remains the gold standard. Its recent expansion into North America, particularly in Quebec, is a significant milestone that has rapidly elevated the region’s dining and hotel scenes to international prominence.

This growing influence underscores why the MICHELIN Guide is increasingly seen as the definitive resource for discerning travelers seeking exceptional gastronomic and lodging experiences, blending tradition with innovation. This evolving story and its impact on Quebec’s culinary identity are explored in detail in the post: MICHELIN Guide Québec.

In October 2025, the MICHELIN Guide released its updated list of Key hotels in Canada. In total there are 38 MICHELIN KEY properites in Canada (two- three key, seven – two key and 29 – one key properties), spotlighting properties that exemplify exceptional hospitality and unique character. This latest selection includes both newly added and returning hotels, reflecting Québec City’s blend of historic charm and modern luxury. The expanded list offers travelers clearer guidance to discover accommodations recognized for their distinguished service and memorable experiences.

Although there are modest number of hotels on this distinguished list, there are plenty of properties that are working towards recognition providing exceptional choices for where to stay in Quebec City. First we can discuss what makes a property worthy of a MICHELIN Key.

What is a MICHELIN Key Property?

A MICHELIN Key property is a hotel awarded by the MICHELIN Guide based on a rigorous and independent evaluation process. Unlike stars granted to restaurants, these “Keys” recognize accommodations across one to three tiers reflecting levels of excellence in architecture, design, service quality, personality, and their connection to local culture. Earning a MICHELIN Key signals to travelers that a hotel delivers a hospitality experience marked by authenticity, comfort, and thoughtful attention to detail.

What Makes MICHELIN Key Hotels Distinct?

MICHELIN inspectors assess hotels anonymously, evaluating multiple aspects — from the warmth of the welcome and attentiveness of service to the harmony of interior design and how the property enhances its surroundings. These comprehensive criteria ensure that Key hotels aren’t just places to stay but destinations that embody distinct character and provide enriching, immersive experiences. Whether it’s a historic boutique hotel adorned with local artifacts or a sleek contemporary retreat, MICHELIN Key hotels set a global standard for exceptional lodging.
