I have to say that the stunning natural sights of British Columbia are never lost on me. I have to give my husband A LOT of credit for relocating to grey Ontario when he could have stayed in Vancouver. That is easier said than done these days as our children have dug deep roots here. They have their friends, their schools and of course my family.
That being said, it is nice to return to B.C. and see some of the beautiful sights that are “Super Natural British Columbia” (the official provincial motto). In the spring my husband and my daughter had the opportunity to go to the new Sea to Sky Gondola in Squamish. Located off the sea to sky highway between Vancouver and Whistler.

The Gondola is able to give you a bird’s eye view of the Squamish Valley, Howe Sound and the surrounding the Coastal Mountains (NOT the Rockies, those are adjacent to Alberta). I am hoping to visit myself sometime this spring but until then, I will be happy to share my husband’s breathtaking pictures.
The Sea to Sky Gondola is open year-round. It is a ten-minute ascent. You can also hike to the top and then take a gondola ride down (That is a reasonable $15 – however, you will have to hike up). You can walk across the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge to the Spirit Viewing Platform. The bridge is approximately 100 metres long and has a backdrop that falls away thousands of feet below, giving you a greater feeling of exposure and height over land. The Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge offers amazing 360-degree views of the area, both up to the high alpine of the mountains above and down to Howe Sound below.
During the winter you can go to the summit for tubing, snowshoeing, winter walking, festive drinks by the fire and more. Next to the Wonderland Lake Loop, about a 5-minute walk from the Summit Lodge, the tube park offers sliding fun for all ages. There is a full-service restaurant at the top and you can also rent the facilities if you want.

Tickets include 1 round-trip ride to the summit where you can access the interpretive loop trails, take an informative trail tour, grab a snack at the Summit Lodge while enjoying beautiful views, access vast climbing and hiking trail networks, or walk across the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge to the Spirit Viewing Platform. Day tickets purchased online are valid for one round-trip on the Sea to Sky Gondola from May to November. The gondola is open daily.
