It is the last week of the crazy shopping season and I am just about done. I’m done. done. done. I love to go shopping, to browse and to have a good look around. It is my happy place to see what is new and fashionable and shiny. Well, maybe that is the old me. I’m less likely to be found on marathon shopping excursions and more likely to be looking for ways to give back. Nevertheless, I was out by myself in Port Huron, Michigan last Wednesday and I did a bit of shopping. Nothing big but enough to keep me thinking about good gifts for Mom. These are in no particular order and I have no links or sponsorship with any of these products… they are just things I thought would be nice.

1. A lovely sweater or Poncho. I was with DD2 when we went in search of a poncho. They come in just about any colour, texture and materials (though knitted fabric ones are all the rage). We a great variety of styles and price points at Forever21. I think I will return to Banana Republic because they had one I really liked. Two different price points but fun all around.
2. A watch. You may have recently read my blog post about JORD Wood Watches and I have to say, I am pleased as punch about this particular watch that I am considering getting another one. Why, because they are stylish and unique and something that is worth the investment if it has a good movements pieces (the JORD Wood Watch has a Seiko movement). Unbelievable. Although watches are a very personal choice, you can always buy one and get a gift receipt. Don’t be insulted if your spouse takes it back. Its a very personal choice…
3. A scarf. This may also seem a bit silly because moms often get scarves but there are so many to choose from with different textures and colours that you really can never go wrong. I have Pashminas that I use often with just about every sweater I wear. Sometimes the sweater is enough, sometimes you just need to throw it over your shoulders for a bit of extra warmth.
4. A gift card to Sephora or Ulta Beauty. I do not wear a lot of make up but I never leave without lipstick or lip gloss. When I want to get fancied up, you can never go wrong with foundation, blush, eyeliner and lipstick. NEVER.GO.WRONG. During the Christmas season Sephora has some fantastic gift sets that hit the mark. Last year, I bought my daughter a mascara kit. It was more to find out which one of the millions of mascaras worked best for her. She is my sporty spice so she needed waterproof mascara. This gift package had 9 different ones to try. She gave some to her sister too because really – who uses 9 mascaras in one year??? I’m looking at the eyeliner set for myself there is enough to share with the girls so I am happy to ask for that.
5. Electronics. Don’t think that electronics is just for the man or teen in your life. I love my tablet, computer and cell phone. If money were no object, I would have a lot of electronic toys to play with. I think it is amazing what you can do with electronics these days. What has (finally) caught my eye? I would have to say a fitbit would be nice (although I want the one with the sleep monitoring feature). I have thought of an Apple watch but since I’m don’t have an iPhone, this may not be practical. Besides, I’ve now know three people that have iWatches and they are not too impressed by them.
6. A purse. I am a shoe and purse girl. I love both dearly but if I had to chose between one or the other, I think I would lean towards having a new purse. My sister-in-law recently brought back a Kate Spade bag for my mother from Europe and it is beautiful. I give her credit for having incredible taste in purses. She always brings my mother a new one from when she travels and they are always lovely. I have two that I am fond of these days and I use daily. In the summer it was a rose and peony patterned handbag from Kate Spade and for the winter a royal blue patent leather bag from Nine West. Unusual in their colour and pattern but I think they go with just about anything. So though purses may be a personal choice, you can never go wrong in my book with a nice new purse.
Note to gift givers… these are purses I already have… not purses I want
7. Although this might not sound like fun for some, it would warm my heart if you wanted to give me a gift of love and caring through donations. I would happily accept any gift of donations to my favourite charities: World Vision, Kiva, Unicef, Canadian Diabetes Association… any of those would be wonderful.
