Year in Review – Top 10 4M & Organizing posts from @DownshiftingPRO

This week I will be counting down the top posts that were viewed on DownshiftingPRO – Your Family, Your Home, Your Life.  4M is Margarita’s Manic Monday Minutes, a series that I publish on Mondays that bring your ideas on how to stay organized in just a few minutes.  These posts were set out to encourage you to tackle an area of your life that needed some tidying up or organizing.  Each task can vary from 5 minutes to 60 minutes to a whole day.  The main purpose was to get you motivated to start getting organized.

The most popular posts seemed to be how to organize my teens and organizing my university student.  There is no better gift that you can give your children than the skills to keep their space organized.  Why? Because they tend to get very busy, very quickly whether they are playing competitive volleyball three times a week or studying in their dorm room.  Teaching your kids to keep things neat and tidy is always very helpful.

Other popular posts involved menu planning and keeping the kitchen organized.  You may think that having a game plan to keep your refrigerator organized is a bit obsessive but in fact it saves you both time and money.  You can easily put away your groceries in designated areas as well as keep a running inventory of what you have on hand.  Saving money by not purchasing the same item over and over and by not wasting food is always a successful way of staying on budget.  When you plan your meals a week in advance taking advantage of sales, you can also lower your grocery bill.

Lastly, routines are important and knowing that you should do a few particular tasks every six months means you will keep your house safe, clean and orderly.  Doing these tasks on the weekend when we change the clocks in the Spring and Fall is useful.  These two posts on tips about what you should be doing on a routine basis were well received on the blog.

Be sure to stay tuned for GO_DPRO month in January where we Get Organized (GO) with more tips from me and other professional organizers.

  1. These are some awesome posts to re read. I totally forgot to do a top post list this year. Organizing is so on my to do musts for this year.

    • Becka… its only the 4th of January… You can still do a Best Post Round up for 2015… I encourage you to do it because it was a great way of seeing what my readers wanted to read. Some posts surprised me, others didn’t because I know I poured my heart and soul into the post.

One of my favourite post was a letter to the young women in my life (my daughter and their friends), so I may do a highlight of MY favourite posts.

  2. Organizing the fridge is one of my obstacles that I have to find out how to master. I want to use my space wisely but still be able to find everything I need. I am notorious for forgetting about items when I can’t see them up front.

    • You are a visual learner. That means out of sight out of mind. So make sure that you buy clear (see-through) containers. That will help you when you are organizing your fridge. Good luck and please post a picture on my FB page if you manage to do it.

  3. organizing! top of my list for the new year. That’s what I’ll be doing new years day. Need to start this new year off right, and clutter free! Great posts I’ll have to re-read them!

  4. I am going to need to keep this post hand as my house is out of control right now. It has been a crazy past year and my house is anything but organized.

  5. These are indeed great organizing tips. I love the idea of organizing every time it is time to change the clocks. Organizing is so important and can really help with how you think. Thanks for sharing the information.

  7. Numbers 2 and 4 would definitely help me!!! We are always throwing out food that we didn’t realize we had until it was bad because it isn’t positioned correctly in the fridge.

  8. I just finished writing my top 10 posts a few minutes ago and it was so much fun looking back at the most popular posts. I LOVE this time of the year when I get to revisit other blogger’s top 10 – like yours. I need all the help with organizing that I can get. Great reads! Thanks for taking us back to some awesome posts.
