I love purses… any kind of purse: fancy ones (I own three Coach bags), trendy ones (I have a patent leather tufted clutch), everyday bags (OK my Coach are my everyday bags), business bags (to carry my computer) and practical on-the-go bags.
As a busy mother of three, my preference on-the-go variety of bag is an over the shoulder bag that crosses across the front of my body. Seems a bit trendy but a bag like this has good weight distribution and the added bonus of the convenience of being hands-free. Sometimes that there are a lot of things that have to go into my bag (Don’t get me started on electronics, smartphones, plugs, cables…) so I need a bag that is pretty big to accommodate all my ‘stuff’.

I am also pretty passionate about purse organizers and being able to grab things on the go and have the right available tools to do that. I like using smaller bags to organize. There are particular features that I look for in purses and carry bags and meeting some of these criteria can be tough.
I like:
- durability
- easy of use/easy access to my stuff
- adaptability (purse to knapsack to carry bag)
- reasonable price point
- quality materials
- fashionable colours

I was offer an opportunity to review a bag that was developed by a blogger colleague and I thought that this bag would be very useful. I have not had the bag for about 8 weeks and I have to say there a things that I really love about the bag and a few improvements that I would suggest. Since this is the first time that she has developed this product. I hope that some of the changes can be incorporated into the next prototype.
Best Feature: By purchasing a sling bag from My Family World, you are helping families (follow the #HelpFamilies hashtag). Two dollars from each sling bag purchase from OFW will go to help children in need by donating to the Breakfast Club of Canada foundation. Not only that, but there is a little something extra partner sample inside each bag for you! (Mine came with samples of IronKids vitamins!).
First and foremost, I`d like you to watch a very short video that I produced with the help of my son to show you all the great things about the over the the Sling bag from OurFamilyWorld.com:
I had just received the bag before I headed to Chicago for Blogher13.
Blogher was its usual chaotic self with over 4,000 bloggers in attendance. Lots of brands means lots of swag to carry around, very little time to organize it so lots of things just got dumped into the bag. No problem… the bag handled like a pro.
I would love to see pockets on either side of the bag to put your phone in. This makes it easier then having to set down the bag and then open right up to access your phone. Its a little detail but an important one. Who doesn’t travel with their cell phone close at hand? I have lost an iPhone because I put it down. Had I had a pocket to place it in EVERY TIME, I may not have lost it.
A good design feature is that it has two zippers that zip up to the top. That means quick access to a wide open bag very quickly. The inside is spacious and carries an awful lot of things (as you can see in the video). To get the best out of this bag, I would really suggest that you use smaller bags to store smaller items. This way, they don`t go all over the place. One of my favourites is a simple small toiletries bag with see-thru pockets. This lets you ‘containerize’ like items and helps you see what you have – all organized.
Another plus is that the ‘sling’ part is nice and wide and adjustable so it sits across your chest. The only problem is that once you started to fill it up a lot, it had a tendency to shift. The weight pulls the bag down so you have to keep adjusting it up. This, however, is only a bit of a problem when you put a lot of stuff in. For the most part, I do not fill it up with unnecessary items (and weight). So, suggestion number two would be to place some sort of silicone on shoulder part so that it would not shift as much.
My favourite feature is that the heavy duty cotton fabric make this bag durable but really light. I don`t know about you but leather bags look great but they are pretty heavy to begin with so if you add a lot of stuff… as women with or without kids tend to do… they get very heavy very fast. This is not the case with this sling bag. It is light and well made.
Overall, I would recommend the bag to anyone that appreciate a hands-free option for carrying a purse and an added bonus is that a purchase of a bag #HelpFamilies so a giving back-to-the-community is built into the overall goal by donating $2 of every bag to Breakfast Clubs of Canada. Make sure to visit OurFamilyWorld.com for sizing and colour choices. There are plenty of great reviews on their website so you DON’T have to take just my word for it!
Full disclosure: I did not receive any compensation for this blog post. I was offered a bag for review. All opinions and honest review are all my own.

Sorry to hear you had issues with your bag. I have a similar Our Family World bag and we have been very happy with it. It is perfect for quick day trips to hold a water bottle, diapers and a change of clothes for my little guy.
