I cannot say enough how important it is to shop local this holiday season. The pandemic has hit so many small businesses hard and in a small town like Paris, Ontario tourism is so important but we must continue to be safe. If you don’t want to venture out, many of these business have on-line shopping options. In person, all the stores we entered had a hand sanitizing station as soon as you walked in, many had a limited amount of patrons allowed in the store as well as directional arrows in improve flow. We left our masks on at all times (in and out of stores) to avoid walking too closely to someone as the sidewalks are not very wide. Please be sure and travel with face masks and try to visit during non-peak time (weekend are very busy).

Grand River Street

The core downtown of Paris, Ontario is a few streets and easy to walk around in an afternoon. You have limited street parking but there is a public parking lot off of Broadway Street. You can park for free for three hours (it’s on the honour system, there is no meter).

On Grand River Street, you will find shops, restaurants and service providers (dentist, hair salons, chiropractor, banks). Some of the restaurants have patios facing the Grand River and on a hot summer or warm fall day it’s pleasant to sit outside and watch the river meander by. There were a few people kayaking and canoeing on both the Nith and Grand Rivers.

Paris Bakery

After my first visit, someone suggested that I visit the Paris Bakery. We had been intrigued but there was a line-up so we walked on. This time, we took the time to stand in line for their famous donuts. This bakery is tiny so you need to go early to score the donuts.

Must buy: Donuts – If you believe in perishable gifts, food is a great gift for the foodie on your list. Be sure and order in advance as these yummy donuts sell out most mornings. We came home with sticky buns and bagels and we were not disappointed.

Make no mistake about it the bread is good. Really good. But by being so good, there were no loaves to take pictures of. We did buy a few baguettes that were quickly consumed before I could take a picture – darn children. This kiosk in the Paris Wincey Mills Co. Market is a satellite location of the famous Good Bread Company located at 15 Lamport St, Vittoria, ON.

Opening up for reservations on November 14th, I had to take a picture of the beautiful cooper stills of this local brewery. Located in the back part of Paris Wincey Mills Co. Market, they will be offering a variety of beers and pizzas (made in a wood oven) on the patio.

I will return for pizza and beer on my next visit to downtown Paris Ontario!

We had a wonderful afternoon in Paris. I was happy to return after our first family visit in August. Downtown Paris Ontario is quaint and bustling on any weekend but try and drop by on Thursday or Friday for a more calm experience. The prettiest town in Canada is a great place for gifts in any season but with the Christmas holiday season quickly approaching, you may want to come by sometime soon.

Enjoy your trip to another wonderful town in Ontario’s Southwest region!

  1. Okay so Beer Vinegar sounds amazing. I need to try it. My kids would love the Eco store. Big time. So, true story my BIL and SIL and one nephew still live nearby in AYR. I know the area well but have never been shopping there. Must change that.

    • It’s a great easy trip from London (as you know) but we had never been until this summer *holdsheadinshame. I’m discovering new areas in Southwest Ontario. Love it.
