Every once in a while I get the courage up to redecorate an room in my home.  I have been on a quest for a side table for a while now and I decided that I needed to look for a good variety of stylish end tables.  Kingsmill’s is an iconic department store has been in London, Ontario for over 140 years. The buyers have impeccable taste and I knew I would get inspiration from the Home Store.
As I walked around the two floors of showroom space, I could easily envision what the living room could be.  Here are some of the lovely side tables that appealed to me. I am drawn to tables that are metal or shinny or glass or all of the above.  I think that the appeal of glass is that it lets light in and creates less bulk.
I like round tables because I am not big on sharp corners. When you have kids, even if they are older, you always think of these things.

Doesn’t this table just fit the bill for me? I like how sturdy it looks and that there is a glass top.

I like the finials on the corners of this table and the granite adds a really beautiful accent. I also like the visual effect of the crossing bars.  So much for not liking a square table. Maybe if they had a round table???

I like the graphic composition of this table. The brushed pewter gives it a metal look without the shine of chrome.  A much more subtle effect.  Only draw back of this table was that it was not very high.  The arm rests on my sofa are very high so that needs to be a consideration.

I like the mother of pearl table top and the unique tripod stand. The biggest drawback was that this table was very small and it would have gotten lost beside my large sofa.

I like the organic shape of this table. I think that the reflective quality in my living room would be lovely as the west sun comes in the late afternoon and brightens the room. If it is overcast then the reflection would also bring light into the space.

This looks like a bistro table and I like the ridges around the edge of the table top. The shape is clean but still provides and interesting line. Once again, I love the organic curves at the bottom and the reflective properties.

This is a modified “Tracey” tables. A cocktail table that has a whole in the side and stands not with a pedestal in the middle but on the side. Whenever I have seen this classic table, it is always in chrome and glass. I think this variation is more modern with brushed steel. I like that although the stand is on the side, it is supported by two legs and not one. I actually really like the ball of light as a lamp although the proportions are all wrong.

This side table appealed to me because the table top is a mirror and therefore reflects any objects that would sit on the top. The fine details of the lion’s feet and rivets make this ‘camping’ table unique.

Ugly lamp aside, I like the curves of this side table. It is airy, fun and fat. I think that the chrome finish just makes it that much more eye-catching! The glass top lets you see the light. My only concern is that this look could get dated very quickly.
In the end,I decided to go with four (yes, 4) distinctly different tables because I wanted a contemporary yet eclectic look.  One is a sold wood round table with two drawers.  I like the dark stain and smooth lines.  It holds my children’s pictures and a few books.

The second table that sits to the left of the sofa is a glass and chrome “Tracey” table that is light and asymmetrical.  It holds a rather large lamp with a stunning grey silk shade and a few organic art pieces.

The third table is a square, silver-leaf covered, Asian inspired box.  It has storage inside (very convenient) and a lovely latch that puts the finishing touches on this little gem.

The fourth table sits between two chrome & leather chairs.  It is shinny and round and compact and organic in shape ~ I love it.  It holds a few art books and a very cool red fish.

When I set out to re-design my living room, I knew I wanted something fun and playful but still classic.  All of these pieces are ones that I could place elsewhere in my house if I so wanted to but for now, they are right where they need to be.
