As is usual when you are travelling and going to be away from the office, there was much to do before departure.  Once most ‘T’ were crossed and ‘I’ were dotted, I hopped on an early flight to TO then to San Diego.

Much to my surprise (and glee) I was on the same flight as one of my dear professional organizing friends, Elaine Shannon, the Empress of Inspiration.  It was great to be able to have some 1-on-1 time with her (guilty pleasure update: I do enjoy going to conferences just to meet up with old friends IRL (in real life) ).

We proceeded to gab for the better part of the flight.  We talked about organizing, mentoring, inspiring, social media (we love that) and being better women, citizens of the world, moms, spouses and well… focused & motivated people.

Once we arrived, we parted ways, her to hook up with her organizer pal from South Africa (Tracey Foulkes) and Colette Robichaud from Halifax- more on them later – and me with my high school friend, Rob – THAT is an even better blog post post-conference!

Day 2 – the first impressions

I started the day very early because I was still on EST so up at 6 am and working by 7. Catching up on emails, sending emails, writing, editing, tweeting, posting, and blogging.  In social media the day is never early enough or late enough.

Once I dragged myself away from my computer, I met up with some a great twitter buddy Brandie Kajino and new friend Anne McCallister . We had a great time shopping at The Container Store – SWEET – and a few other stores – (get this, I bought a pair of shoes & brought home two left feet – *losing* ).

The vendor-expo-cocktail-hour was a great success with presents from all sorts of vendors (yup I’ll tell you all about it in another completely separate post).

tweetup logoThe evening ended with the loudest, crazies tweet-up I have ever been to.  Who knew professional organizers could make so much noise?  If you follow me on Twitter I have a running tweet stream about the people I met and hung out with.  Make sure to see that too.

O.K. I have to get going because my big day is today and I am up for the “Ask The Organizer Panel”.  How do you think I will do?  Nothing like having 600 of your peers waiting for you to tell them what to do.   I love my job!
