In the summer of 2011 my husband and I took a mini-vacation from our family vacation.  We left our three children in the care of my in-laws

and we headed to San Diego, California and Las Vegas, Nevada for a conference and a weekend away.

We stayed with my high school friend and his spouse and we had a wonderful time.  I have fond, fond memories of our stay with Rob & Don.

As an added bonus, we decided to drive into the desert (in 105 degrees heat) and head to Vegas (a first for both of us).

We are not huge drinkers, gamblers or late night party people but there is so much more to see in Vegas.

One of the highlights had to be our visit to the Bellagio Hotel.

Above the 18-foot ceiling is a coffer filled with the most extraordinary glass sculpture

This stunning piece is comprised of 2,000 hand-blown glass blossoms

We rented a car and drove from San Diego to Las Vegas

There are the Bellagio Fountains.  A sight not to be missed.  They run throughout the day but it is best to see them at night.

Make sure to drop by The Mirage Hotel

The Volcano erupts nightly beginning at 7:00 p.m. and runs every half hour* until 11:00 p.m. (nightly)
Once again, another one of those things that you just have to see in Vegas.  It is pretty spectacular.
